Our APPROACH TO LEARNING
At Newleaf Learning & Childcare Centre, we believe children learn best through meaningful experiences, exploration, and positive relationships. Our approach to learning is inspired by contemporary early childhood research and philosophies such as Jean Piaget and the Reggio Emilia approach, which recognize children as capable, curious, and active participants in their own learning.
Our educators create thoughtfully designed environments that invite children to explore, ask questions, and investigate the world around them. By observing children’s interests and ideas, educators design learning experiences that extend curiosity and encourage deeper understanding.
Learning Through Play and Exploration
Play is a powerful way for children to learn. Through play-based experiences, children develop important skills such as problem solving, creativity, communication, and cooperation. Our classrooms provide rich opportunities for children to explore materials, build ideas, and engage in meaningful interactions with peers and educators.
Project and Inquiry-Based Learning
Children often become deeply interested in topics that spark their curiosity. Our educators support these interests through project-based learning experiences, where children can investigate ideas over time. These projects allow children to ask questions, experiment, collaborate, and build knowledge in meaningful ways.
Nature as a Teacher
We believe nature offers endless opportunities for discovery and learning. Outdoor experiences encourage children to explore, observe, and develop an appreciation for the natural world while supporting their physical, emotional, and cognitive development.
Creativity and Learning Through Art
Art is an important part of our program. Children are introduced to different artists, artistic styles, and creative materials. Through painting, drawing, sculpting, and other forms of artistic expression, children develop creativity, imagination, and confidence in sharing their ideas.
Yoga and Mindfulness
We incorporate simple yoga and mindfulness practices to support children’s emotional well-being and self-regulation. These experiences help children develop body awareness, focus, and calmness while encouraging them to recognize and manage their emotions.
Learning Through Relationships
Strong relationships are the foundation of meaningful learning. Our educators build trusting and respectful connections with children, creating an environment where children feel confident to explore, express themselves, and take part in new experiences.
At Newleaf Learning & Childcare Centre, our approach to learning supports the whole child, mind, body, and spirit—while encouraging curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
